Here Beattie Co created dynamic forms and spaces within a tight site. Essentially, a new two storey house was created taking advantage of the fall of the land and vistas, behind the existing single storey Victorian frontage.
Interesting aspects of this project are its two internal stairways and first floor courtyard. In a small house two stairs is unusual. They create pathways which are crucial in small spaces, adding interesting viewpoints and a variety of places. The internal courtyard provides a comforting enclosure for three different rooms.
Reclaimed face brickwork, dark ironstone colouring, timber fencing and custom concrete steps were chosen. This creates an architecture which is subdued and detailed to last. Situated on a swamp and major storm water culvert, this project faced serious challenges. A great collaborative effort from client, consultants and builder delivered a superb house.
